2009 Corsa di Mille Pini

On Saturday the 26th, the Light Car Club of Canberra will host the 2009 Corsa di Mille Pini. The Race of 1000 Pines has proved a popular event with ACT and NSW competitors, with this event contributing to both the PCD Engineering ACT Regional Rally Series and the CAMS NSW Clubman Series.
Entries close on Monday 21st of September so get those entries in and dont be too late to have some fun in these new stages. The club is also after the never failing assistance of all competitors heros, the Officials. The below links are the Supp Regs and Officials Form so get either in please. Your entries and help are always welcome.
2009 LCCC Treasure Hunt
On Sunday the 16th of August, the Light Car Club of Canberra hosted the 2009 LCCC Treasure Hunt. The hunt was designed for the whole family no matter what age, to be able to have some fun and help us raise money for Teamlife, Transplant Australia. All proceeds are being donated to the charity.
Transplant Australia exists to enrich and celebrate life. Their vision is for Australia to lead the world in organ and tissue donation and transplantation – saving lives, improving quality of life and providing much needed care and support.
Their members share a special bond, having all been touched in some way by transplantation. They include those awaiting transplantation, donor families, living donors, transplant recipients, and the doctors, nurses and co-ordinators working in the organ and tissue donation and transplantation sector.
The Light Car Club of Canberra is proud to be associated with this worthy cause and hope you the members, along with friends, family and anyone basically, can help us raise some well needed funds for Transplant Australia.
Well done must go to Nick Cox and his crew for winning the event and to the officials that helped out all day. We're proud to say we raised approx $400 on the day but we're in the process of organising a raffle to increase that amount. If you know of any business that can donate prizes, please email us on lightcar@lightcarclub.org

2009 LCCC Safari Rally
On Saturday the Light Car Club of Canberra Safari Rally was contested in the forest surrounding Canberra. The Safari Rally is traditionally a popular event with ACT and NSW competitors, with this event contributing to both the PCD Engineering ACT Regional Rally Series and the CAMS NSW Clubman Series.
After winning the last round in Canberra Barrett and Batten lead the field into the forest as car one however, it was NSW competitors, Jon Parker and Jamie Neale in an Evo who drove a solid opening two stages to secure an early 20sec lead in the outright standings. Now Barrett and Batten, along with fellow Canberrans Peter Taylor and Kim Martin in their Corolla, set out to chase down the NSW pair. By half way through the event, Barrett/Batten had claimed back only six seconds. Over the following stages Barrett/Batten drew even and took back the lead of the event. As night set in the rain started to fall and the final stage become extremely slippery. A gruelling 32kms stood between the crews and victory with only ninety seconds separating the top teams. Barrett and Batten drove through to victory, winning by a commanding 110 seconds, Taylor/Martin 2nd and Parker/Neale 3rd.
The competition for Clubman saw David Boyd and Julie Boorman drive a Datsun Stanza to an outright seventh place whilst winning maximum points for the clubman series ahead of a fast finishing Behnke/Southwell in a Honda Civic and the father/son combination of Kagan and Phil Skipper in Charade. Behnke’s determination was obvious to spectators at the Mineshaft as he landed sideways after jumping over the infamous drop.
Novice competitors showed some impressive speed with Stephen Duthie and Damien Hanns in a Datsun 180B finishing 11th outright leaving some clubman drivers scratching their heads as to what is takes to beat him.
Spectators were treated to a day of excitement, Dennis Stanford and Andrew Kohler turned hard into a left hand corner and the car ended up on its roof, to the cheer of the spectators. Both men were unharmed during the event but unfortunately the damage to the car meant they could not continue.
Of the all female crews, Cathy Donohue and Renee Jeffrey, started strong but suffered some issues mid event and unfortunately fell down the leader board. Kelly Caruna and Mel McMinn in a Holden Commodore had their gearbox break early in the event. Donna Moran and Charlotte Hodgkin, gained confidence throughout the event in the Mazda 323 and finished their first event together.
The teams now have a large break until the next event in Canberra on the 26th September.
Below are the Results for the event.

2008 ACT Rallying Interclub Billycart Race

Well it was time to bring back some old school competition between the rally clubs of ACT. This brought the return of the ACT Rallying Interclub Billycart Race between LCCC and BMSC.
Six carts were brought out to the Murrays corner Track with 14 drivers testing their engineering and driving skills against each other and the clock. After an early thought be several people inspecting the track, that there were going to be quite a few crashes, the field only managed a couple with special mention going to Ray Baker for his spectacular barrel roll after the last corner. Everyone enjoyed themselves and all are anxiously awaiting the next run.
Results are below:
Under 15's - Jason Walker
Open - Mark "Bosshair" Sessions
Ladies - Kirrillee Gentlemen
Team Challenge and Novelty - Team Mitsubilly Rallifart
Unfortunately we didnt have an entries for the Experts and Young Guns classes but hopefully after seeing the fun we had, they'll certainly show up next time.

2008 John Watson Tri-series Khanacross
The 2008 John Watson Tri-series Khanacross has come to a close for 2008. After a great turn and 16 Tri-Series eligble competitors battled it out, it all came down to the last event which was held on the 5th October over the long weekend. Returning from a year off, we've once again seen some 4WD's back in action, mixing it up with the buggy's and PRC cars.
After several people being able to take out this years title, the man in the little Cheetah 180B, Chris Hellesey has taken home the prize. This mad man that has been competing since the second year of the Tri-Series has each year improved his abilities and it certainly showed this year. Well done to Chris and we hope to see everyone back again in 2009.
